The museum contains a rich collection of exhibits from antiquity to modern times. It organizes numerous temporary exhibitions presenting art from all over the world.

The biggest museum in Warsaw, has been running since 1862, but the modernist New Building of the National Museum was built between 1927 and 1938. During the Second World War, the museum lost a huge part of their wealth however to this day you can still admire a unique collection of ancient art, Egypt, Eastern Christian, medieval, oriental, modern and contemporary. In addition, exhibitions of decorative art, sculptures, coins and medals, as well as iconographic and photographic collections.

The National Musuem has something special in store to mark the end of 2017. Starting from 15th December, Polish applied arts will be on permanent display in the Gallery of Polish Design, showcasing the most important pieces from the early 20th century up to the present day.

Monday: Closed
Fridays: 10 a.m. — 8 p.m.
Tuesday - Thursday, Saturday - Sunday: 10 a.m. — 6 p.m. (1st of January: 12 a.m. — 6 p.m.)

Please note to plan your sightseeing visit up to 45 minutes before the closing times.

 Please note that the museum is closed to visitors on Easter, 1st-3rd of May, 15th of August, 1st of November and on December 24th, 25th, 31st.
